atw: Re: Making desktop icons stick

You get a razor blade and very gently peel them off the screen, add a bit of
superglue and paste em straight back on :-)

But seriously for a second, here's is my way of using the given tech:

Create a "Work" folder somewhere on your data disk.
Create a couple of "Tool" folders in here, chocka full of shortcuts, scraps
etc
Create shortcuts to these folders from my desktop.

So whenever I open the "Writing stuff" folder, Word's icon always appears
right under the icon of a nuclear bomb, where it belongs :-)

Hi all
I'm working on Windows XP Professional 2002 SP2. I have a number of desktop
shortcuts which I use regularly, and which I like to be in a certain
position so that I can find them.

I save short-term things to the desktop so that I can find them easily and
delete them when I've finished with them. Whenever I save things to the
desktop they inveigle their way into my nice permanent icon setup, and shift
it around. Does anybody know how to make these permanent icons stick and not
be displaced by the temporary interlopers?
