I'm not sure if I'm interpreting your question correctly, but it sounds
to me that by setting it as SQUARE, you're telling the indents to
change, with the graphic being the new boundary from which the paragraph
measures the margins/indents. I would try setting the picture to be
either behind text or in line with text, depending on how and where you
want to it to appear.
If it is inserting in a frame, you can stop this via
>Tools>Options>Edit.
