atw: Re: Knowledge management

I've=20been=20using=20Sharepoint=20for=20some=20time.=20It=20has=20its=20=
good=20points=20and=20bad=20points,=20like=20most=20systems.

The=20main=20problem=20we=20have=20in=20terms=20of=20KM=20is=20poor=20str=
ucture=20(our=20own=20fault).=20I'm=20sure=20if=20the=20taxonomy=20were=
=20well=20thought-out=20it=20would=20be=20fine.=20But=20then=20I've=20nev=
er=20used=20a=20really=20swish-bang=20system,=20so=20I=20can't=20really=
=20compare=20it=20to=20one.

dashboards=20to=20work=20on
shared=20documents=20or=20spreadsheets.

I=20think=20knowledge=20management=20is=20still=20no=20clearly=20defined=
=20in=20the=20corporate
world=20but=20most=20definitions=20I=20have=20seen=20are=20similar=20to=
=20what=20I=20described=20above
ie=20making=20information=20readily=20available=20within=20a=20company.=
=20Sharepoint=20is=20also
about=20shared=20workspaces=20or=20many=20people=20working=20on=20a=20'pr=
oject'=20together.=20I
can't=20see=20how=20it=20does=20that=20successfully,=20it=20mostly=20has=
=20a=20messaging=20system
which=20opens=20with=20the=20document.

To=20be=20honest,=20freeware=20like=20joomla=20does=20the=20content=20man=
agement=20better=20than
Sharepoint.

Not=20impressed.=20The=20implementation=20I=20am=20using=20has=20no=20met=
hod=20for=20producing
re-usable=20content.=20I=20have=20created=20modules=20for=20frequently=20=
used=20content=20but
every=20time=20there's=20a=20change=20I=20have=20to=20reload=20the=20modu=
le=20on=20each=20page.=20There
are=20currently=2039=20pages=20on=20the=20website=20I'm=20building.

It's=20also=20so=20low=20in=20features,=20I=20am=20hand-coding=20most=20o=
f=20the=20stuff=20in=20HTML.

I'm=20not=20sure=20if=20this=20is=20the=20full=20Sharepoint=20or=20a=20su=
bset=20to=20which=20the=20client
I'm=20working=20for=20gives=20rights.=20When=20I=20talked=20to=20the=20pr=
ogrammers=20who=20control
access=20about=20re-usable=20content,=20they=20looked=20blank.

At=20least=20I'm=20well=20paid=20for=20all=20the=20time=20it=20takes=20me=
=20to=20reload=20changes.
