Sorry, Christine, I re-read your email and realised you were after
information about knowledge management. The Sharepoint implementation I am
using is used for building sites for each division on the company intranet.
It does contain a facility for uploading documents and allowing people to
share them via the intranet and for making application dashboards to work on
shared documents or spreadsheets.
I think knowledge management is still no clearly defined in the corporate
world but most definitions I have seen are similar to what I described above
ie making information readily available within a company. Sharepoint is also
about shared workspaces or many people working on a 'project' together. I
can't see how it does that successfully, it mostly has a messaging system
which opens with the document.
To be honest, freeware like joomla does the content management better than
Sharepoint.

Sharepoint, yes.
Not impressed. The implementation I am using has no method for producing
re-usable content. I have created modules for frequently used content but
every time there's a change I have to reload the module on each page. There
are currently 39 pages on the website I'm building.
It's also so low in features, I am hand-coding most of the stuff in HTML.
I'm not sure if this is the full Sharepoint or a subset to which the client
I'm working for gives rights. When I talked to the programmers who control
access about re-usable content, they looked blank.
At least I'm well paid for all the time it takes me to reload changes.
Michelle

Perhaps I haven't fallen that far behind. ;-) Seems like little progress
has been made... which is not surprising.
Is anyone using SharePoint?

I seem to recall an intensive three days of people talking about what CMS=
and KMS is / are / should be just a while back.
Only trouble is, can't remember what conclusion(s) was/were reached, or=
where they were stored if they were reached. :-)
I think the answer is whatever it was that someone Knowledgeable About

Things last said it was. Only answer details I recall seem to have to do=
with the length of string, or some such.
Make up an answer as to what it should be, then point out that there isn't=
one yet, but there are lots of sort of things that sort of look like they=
might be part of the way to whatever it is you think they should be.
But make sure you keep a copy of the answer somewhere. :-)
More helpful suggestions follow.... tomorrow maybe...
