atw: Re: Jargon Alert

The "special" language used by police was developed over generations to
assist attempts to force villains into admitting things they didn't do.

It is rapidly being outlawed. This is most clearly demonstrated when DNA
evidence has cleared people who admitted to crimes. When trying to =
establish
why they had admitted to the crimes, it became clear that the "special"
language was the problem - the cleared people didn't understand what was
being read back to them at the interview stage...

Terrible.

I assumed that the special language used by police was a pathetic =
attempt to
sound official and legal. The railways have used their own jargon for =
many
years. A station is either a through station or a terminus. Thus a =
train
terminates at a terminus, though it may terminate at a through station.
