Perhaps it comes down to formality and style. Although
people often say "gotten easier"/"got easier", to me
it seems poorly suited to documentation. 

Doing a quick search of some US help files, I found
many occurrences of "get" and "getting" (e.g. "get
Help", "Getting Started"), but none of "got" or
"gotten".
