Adding 1c more to my 2c worth.. 

if you refer to Sommerville - Software Engineering 7 - ISBN 0-321 21026-3 Pub: 
Addison Wesley (Pearson)
it states that implementation is in fact a stage of development and is a term 
used very loosely by developers... 
(hmmm...)

also, it states that Deployment is a process that consists of the following:
Release, Install, Activate, Deactivate, Update, Adapt, Uninstall and Retire.

Have I confused you more?
