atw: Re: Fwd: Call for input: Next Generation of Microsoft Help Platform

Something that works reliably from MS would be helpful.
No more marketing gump would be even better.

In fact, what about MS just going "poof" into the lexicon of failed empires?

User assistance technologies I use:
Hammers
Baseball bats
Shotguns (saltpetre pellets work best, they don't kill users but by God they
sting...)
Cattle prods
Can MS incorporate these into software? You know, with dialogs like "how
many lumps would you like today?" Or: "Where would you like your prodding
today". You could also use a wildcard: "Click here if you are stoopid..."

What about the "Lets blow up an idiot MS developer for f#$%#$g my day"
option button.

Yup. I'm having one...
RoboWass: Judge jury and executioner of software developers. And I do it for
pleasure. No fees incurred.

PS: Why? Why you may ask; am I having a bad day? Because I am dealing with a
company who develops software. Except they are so good they don't have to
test their software, it always works, there are no problems, and they
release it because it works without testing because we wrote it...

Tell me it is all my fault somebody. I'll believe it...

Platform

Saw this on the HATT list, thought some austechies might be interested.

(BTW isn't that a lovely example of Microspeak:
"the team that currently owns defining the Help experience
for Windows Vista and beyond")

Hello folks - I'm posting the following on behalf of the team that currently
owns defining the Help experience for Windows Vista and beyond. They are
specifically interested in collecting some hard data from folk like you all.
:) Please take a moment to respond to survey which you can access via the
link below. Thank you!

======================================================

Microsoft is planning the next-generation Help platform and we WOULD LIKE
YOUR FEEDBACK. If you or someone in your organization is responsible for
designing, developing, planning, or managing user assistance systems, we
want to gain a deeper understanding of how we can help you develop the best
possible systems. This includes:

- A help system you build for your own products
- A Web site for self help
- A modified or standard Microsoft Windows Help system

We are interested in the user assistance technologies you're using now
(whether or not they are Microsoft technologies), what features are
important, and what you would like to see in the future. Your input will be
an important resource for future planning of Windows client- and web-based
user assistance development platforms and tools, as well as the Help system.

If your job responsibilities include user assistance systems, please click
on the link below to take the survey. It takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Please also forward this survey to others in your organization that are
responsible for user assistance, whether or not you take the survey.

The survey will be available through Wednesday, December 13, 2006.

If you have any questions, or would like to provide feedback after December
13, contact:

             uasurvey (at) microsoft (dot) com

Thank you for your time and feedback.
