But wrote too soon -- SeaMonkey is back with HTML 4.0; too bad about any version of XHTML -- transitional, strict, or 1.1!
A better bet is Aptana Studio which will support XHTML 1.1 with MathML and SVG, but you have to configure the default "new" page starter code first. This also allows you to include JavaScript libraries like Adobe Spry for nifty effects. Free light version with a 30 day trial of professional add-ons, which reverts to light but keeps working. Also does CSS and the common Web languages like Java, JavaScript, PHP, etc.
Amaya is sponsored by the W3C so it is absolutely standards compliant and a good way of checking your work even if you don't develop content with it. It's a bit sparse on features compared to the others but also supports a variety of HTML and XHTML releases, including XHTML 1.1 with MathML and SVG. Also does CSS.
<oXygen/> is an all-purpose editor for the XML family of standards (XSL, FO, RelaxNG, etc.) and comes with lots of templates. It is NOT free but quite cheap if you can get a student's ID card for an academic pricing. It seems to be the editor of choice for the DITA project. It is very cranky [but in a good way 8^) ] about syntax and has a nifty traffic light in the RH corner of a document window which is green for valid code, orange for passable but not recommended code, and red when errors are present. When the traffic light is red or orange, little horizontal bars appear across the vertical scroll bar in the appropriate error colour. Clicking on one of these bars jumps you to the source of the problem.
Must look into this Joomla to keep the whole mess organised. Regards, Hedley -- Hedley Finger 28 Regent Street Camberwell VIC 3124 Australia Tel. +61 3 9809 1229 Fax. (call phone first) Mob.
