atw: Re: FrameMaker: Code syntax example in grey box

Hi Mick

I tried to do this a while ago and found it quite difficult. Frame doesn't have
an easy equivalent to Word in this respect.

My code examples ran over a number of pages, and didn't split nicely, so the
table solution didn't work well for me either.

I ended up putting the code into a separate flow, and applying the shading to
the flow. This is not a task for the faint hearted and you will probably do a
lot of cursing before you're finished. Read the help carefully before you
start, and back up!

If you're converting using WWP, I was also warned that this might cause
problems, with the flow appearing at strange places in the converted document,
but I didn't have this happen to me.

Another option if you're converting to an HTML format might be to apply the
shading via the style sheet for the converted result and not worry about
shading the Frame content.

This may give you some ideas to pursue.

Cheers

Margaret

Quoting Mick Washbrooke <MickWashbrooke@xxxxxxxxxx>:

I have a FrameMaker formatting issue I hope I can get some help with.

I want to surround my code syntax examples with grey shading to make
them stand out, but I don't want to put the example in a single-row
table cell. Can anyone tell me how I'd define a character format or a
paragraph tag that surrounds the text with a grey shading? There has to
be a way to do it! We tried defining a graphic on the reference page and
using a negative offset, but that didn't work.

Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance.
