Maybe it is because the phrase "it just appeared like magic" is so common that 
people have begun to associate appearing with sudden, magic or unexplained 
occurrences?

I've seen this reasoning before but I've never understood
it. You click a button or choose a menu option or whatever
and a dialog box appears on your screen. Seems like fairly
clear cause and effect to me.
