Christine
Avoid Dodo, they are one of the most complained about ISPs, mostly because
people are suckers for the low price, and don't seem to understand that they
will keep hit with huge "excess" usage charges. Dodo has had to reign in
their false advertising, but they still suck and should not be approached
for any reason.
Anyone with fixed broadband requires a Telstra landline, that is, good old
copper wire (yes, the death of the landline is not nigh).
There is no ISP in the country that will give "good service" to consumer
customers. However, once you are plugged in and set up, the odds are you
will never ever ever need to call them, so, don't get too concerned over
that aspect. With any luck you will never have to listen to some kid in a
call centre telling you that you have a "really crap" router and that's why
you have a problem (even though your router has run merrily for five years
without a hick up); or "we can send Telstra out to investigate, but if
there's nothing wrong with the line you'll be charged for the service -
$125"; or, no we don't have a server down, that's only in Queensland; blah,
blah, blah.
Sometimes an ISP server goes down, don't bother to call them, just wait
'till it comes back up again. The time is rarely long, and it might happen
a couple of times a year. Big whoop.
Not sure why you are so keen on bundling, given that most bundles are a rip
off; that's why companies offer them. Why do you want a corporatation to
decide what and how you will consume, and charge you more for the privilege
of letting them make your consumer decisions?
Not sure why you feel you have to stay with Telstra broadband in order to
get VOIP; so long as you have an Internet connection you can access VOIP,
and for free, if you make that choice, but perhaps I have misunderstood, in
which case ignore my ramble.
Anyway, sorry for the random thoughts -
Give serious consideration to going with with http://www.iinet.net.au/ -
good reputation, good packages, competitive pricing. Not sure what your
bundling needs are, or what type of ISP package you need, but they have
something to suit pretty much anyone.
Let us know what decisions you eventually make, hey?
Best
