atw: Re: Desktop publishing in Word

I'm very interested in the answer to this question. As far as I know you
can't do it in Word, though it gives you the impression that you can.

I used to use PageMaker, which did it very nicely.

Have you considered looking at MS Publisher? I had a very short and
unhappy history with it (it was so "user friendly" (ie for people who
don't want to think) that it took all my control away from it). This was
some time ago, and it may now be useful.

Does anyone know if there is an automatic way to make Word print the
correct
pages for a pamphlet? I don't know the correct terms, but I want to be
able
to put a few A4 pages together, fold them in half and staple them down
the
middle. Which means that I need to print double sided, and print Page 1
and
Page 6 on the same side, page 2 and Page 5 on the same side and so on.

I have selected two pages per sheet and landscape which gives me page 3
and
page 4 in the correct relation to one another, but have failed to find
any
function for the rest.

I seem to remember doing this years ago, but can't remember how we did
it.

If there isn't a way, does anyone know a suitable freeware
self-publishing
program?

Christine
