I'm sure you've already discovered that this problem has plagued other users
and most have been bamboozled as to a solution.
Only thing that comes to mind is turning off the Word editor, that's if
you're using it for mail. Then deselect the spell/grammar box again and see
what happens.
Oddly, some people have identified that the fault might also be something to
do with inserting auto signatures, or having a default signature, whereby
spell check works below the signature block, but not above it. However,
this is still related to the styles and the Word editor, I think.. (Sorry,
don't use Outlook at home, so I can't experiment.) Apparently there are a
lot of people typing within the signature block, hence why the spell/grammar
check isn't applied. That is, the mail message is *inadvertently *within the
signature block - easy to understand how that would happen, but can't claim
I've ever had it happen.
Of course, you could also try "none" instead of using an auto signature, to
test out whether that's causing your problem, if so, then the Word styles
would be the root cause, assuming you're using the Word editor.
Other than that, you could makes sure that normal.dot has spell check set,
but I suspect that's not your problem.
Oh, and double check that you have selected a language and a dictionary in
your settings, although again, I'm sure you've got that covered. Just
trying to think of every little thing.
Sorry I can't be more useful, but that's all I can think of without being
able to do some fiddling about myself to create the error.
