When you x-ref to a heading, all Word does is put in a hidden
bookmark. If you want to control this you are far better off creating
your own bookmarks and making sure you display the bookmark character
on screen so you can immediately see if they've wandered off.
There should be macros available 'out there' which would go through a
document and create 'real' bookmarks for all headings... or all headings
of a particular level. Could be worth a look. The only one I have is
for OpenOffice, which isn't much help :-/
