Thanks, Elizabeth
I'm very reassured to hear that you too had problems relating to hanging
indents. That seems to suggest that it isn't a problem I created myself!
I guess I'll just have to fix the style manually. I was actually hoping
that copying the style would provide some assurance that the paragraphs
really had the same formatting as they would have had if they'd been
based on the new template! I suppose I naively believed that technology
would catch errors that I might miss - and with that came the assumption
that the technology wouldn't introduce new errors.
I should probably revise those assumptions, particularly when the
technology comes from Microsoft!

I have used the organizer to copy styles quite often. The one thing that
seems to fail is heading numbering and the associated hanging indent - I
usually have to reset all the numbering bits of the heading styles, but
as this is still easier than trying to recreate every other style I just
live with it.

Subject: atw: Copying styles from templates [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Has anyone had problems copying a paragraph style in Word from a
template to a document, using the Organizer?
I naively thought that I could update the principal paragraph style
("Para") in a document this way. The document was created using an
earlier version of the template and I wanted to make sure that, wherever
"Para" was applied in the document, it would have the attributes of the
"Para" in the *new* template. I used the Organizer to copy the "Para"
style from the template into the document, overwriting the existing
"Para" style in the document.
Most of the attributes of the template style carried over, but the
hanging indent, which existed - and was in fact the same - in both
versions of "Para", was simply destroyed after the copying. I suppose
this may simply be a bug in the Organizer, but I couldn't recreate it in
a simple test, so before wasting too much time wanted to check if anyone
else knows about this problem.
