Good point Michael (Lewis).

All things being permitted (copyright wise) you could "print" to Symantec 
WinFax Pro (or similar, if you have it) and use its OCR tool to recover the 
text of the pages of the resulting virtual fax to an ASCII plain text file.

If the document has lots of fancy formatting and graphics, rather than just 
straight text of a consistent size and typeface, however, you are in for 
heaps of time in proofreading and editing.
