atw: Re: Contracting and tax deductions

Jon,
Tip: Get an ETag and let the RTA keep track of your
movements and expenses. It is great, living in North
Sydney I have a written record of every time I went into
the city or out on the M2 - I use this every time I visit
clients in the Parramatta to Pennant Hills area.

As I remember it you can either track all car expenses
and decide on a proportion for private use, or log all
trips and claim for the mileage.
I suspect that your agent will want to do both and then
choose the best method for you.

}   Hi all,
}
} Here is a question for you contractors who
} work interstate. Let's say I
} live
} in Sydney but work as a contractor in
} Canberra, for example, and commute
} there each week. What types of expenses can
} I claim for tax purposes?
}
} Being new to contracting, I've been having a
} vigorous discussion with my
} tax
} agent and he has said keep receipts for
} everything - like travel
} (airfares,
} car stuff like petrol, services and NRMA
} membership), mobile and landline
} phone calls, accommodation, meals, ISP
} costs, etc. All of these, he has
} said, are claimable as deductions.
}
} Is this right and would anyone like to add
} or subtract to this list?
