atw: Re: Contract position - Mincom, Brisbane, 3 months+

Hi Debbie,

It's a public forum where all things 'technical writing' can be
discussed and I reserve the right to do so without censorship as you
appear quite happy to. When I make my comments, I rarely 'shout' as you
seem to have done and I try to stick to the facts as I see them (right,
wrong or otherwise).

In relation to my third paragraph (which was my second BTW), the letter
was posted publicly and we all therefore have a right to discuss it
publicly. Out of respect to the author however, I did not go into detail
because the problems are self-evident and intimate discussion would /
could have caused embarrassment and the rebuttal to Bog4n indicated that
the person may still not have understood the problem. Anyway, these
issues have been discussed many times over the years on this forum;
people have been named and shamed, and grammar, spelling and language
faux pas have been highlighted to the world.

And a re-read of my email shows that I did not call you unprofessional
Debbie, I just said you were being a bit harsh. I called Bog4n's comment
unprofessional. If you felt that my stating that you were being a bit
harsh was a bit harsh, then I am sorry but I thought you were tougher
than that. I would have thought that someone who could call for someone
to be kicked off the list could take some v-e-r-y gently criticism
herself but, alas, it appears I was wrong.

And Christine, you are spot on (although if there were two, I didn't see
the second one), we are very lucky that the more abusive elements on the
list are gone (Micheal L, Steve H etc.). I'm just replying (as I seem to
be doing a lot lately) to defend myself over what I see as incorrect
criticism, but I'm done with this thread now.

Geez I love this list. <sigh> ... Is it whiskey o'clock yet?:-)

Cheers,

Bruce

Hey guys - it's not one. There have been two of these. It's
normal stuff that list managers deal with all the time. Leave it to
Geoff, or whoever is running the list now, and don't get into it.
Otherwise they have succeeded in what they set out to do. We are lucky
we have had so few.

NON-ABUSIVE? You're KIDDING right????????????

I am being a bit harsh? I am being 'unprofessional'??? EXCUSE
ME???

Re-read your third paragraph Bruce (regarding the covering
letter) - to publicly comment like that is far more 'harsh' and
unprofessional' in my view than my request to Geoffrey following Bog4n's
insensitive and rude comments..

You are being a bit harsh there Debbie. Censorship isn't
Geoff's thing and a non-abusive comment doesn't warrant it anyway. The
only issue I have with Bog4n is that he/she is anonymous and the list
should be restricted to those whom we can identify (so that they are
accountable for their words). :-)

As for Bog4n's 'comment', it WAS unprofessional but I
can certainly understand the cause. The 'covering letter' was certainly
not what I would have expected from a Technical Writer of two years
experience who uses that particular letter when seeking work as a TW. A
more professional comment would have been to simply encourage Poornima
to have any such letter proofread before using it.

                Regards,

Hi,

Mincom is currently looking for a contract tech writer for a three-month
contract to write online help for one of their software products. There
is a minimal amount of existing documentation, and the successful
candidate would need to be a motivated writer, able to create the
documentation from scratch, working with the development and consulting
teams. There is potential for the contract to be extended for a further
three months to develop custom process documentation for a customer of
this product (including on-site visits, to their Brisbane offices).
There is also potential for this to become a permanent role. Prior
experience with Authorit would be great, but is not essential.

This role is Brisbane-based.

I am helping the dev and consulting managers in the hiring process, but
am not the hiring manager. I do not have access to the rates for the
contract.

If you are interested in applying for the role, or have further
questions, I'd be happy to help.

Thanks,
KT
