Big range of choices. And your options vary according to what you want to
pay. One favourite of mine is WinPatrol which can alert you to lots of
potential annoyances and also gives access to process-indentification (and
killing) facilities.
See: http://www.winpatrol.com
And for all kinds of things, don't go past SIW to find out things about your
machine you never knew -- including all your processes, open ports, licence
numbers and even the passwords you've been using on
all those strange places you've been visiting on the net :-)
Small, neat and self-contained. Stick it in your desktop or someplace handy.
You never know when you might need it. And it's an education in itself.

I could go on...
But first check Gizmo's list of free things .... and even subscribe to his
extended list ... can save you heaps. He gives reviews and comparisons
and does extend reviews to some tools you might be prepared to pay for.
