What idealists you guys are! Does anyone watch House? They start with the
premise that everyone lies. So does an interviewer.
Now if I'm interviewing you, and you say this, I groan. I think. "Oh sh**,
does this mean there is an abusive ex-husband stalking this lady, and did
she have a breakdown? Or has she had cancer that might need more chemo
during the course of this project? Has she come back to work too soon
because they are throwing her off workers comp? I can't even ask her for
more details! If she did have a breakdown, can she handle the stress of
impossible deadlines and that b***** awful project manager? Oh dear. I
don't have any choice. I've got to take her because there is no-one else,
but I will have to watch her like a hawk. I can't give her the important
stuff in case she cracks up, so I'd better put her onto the "mind numbing
dodo" job till I see how she goes."
And all the time, I will be smiling sweetly. That's reality. There's not
much kindness in corporate.
Of course, if you look startlingly well, have a fabulous tan, are sporting
well tuned biceps, and have a sparkle in your eye, you might get away with
it. But then, the sugar daddy and the cruise around the world story would
be quite convincing too.
