Oh, ignore the boys, Tracy.
They’ve obviously never been on the receiving end of discrimination, or they
would know that having been sick WILL jeopardise your chances of employment.
The market is so buoyant and the moment that you just may still land a job,
but you will be under serious scrutiny once you start, so it is not worth
it.
Just don’t lie. Find a truth that you can talk about plausibly and omit the
health bit. Something like taking time out to develop your creative side,
or travelling (but you will have to have travelled to say that), or gone to
England to see the rellies, or being supported by your sugar daddy, or
renovating the house – anything you can find that is actually true to some
extent. The reality is that you don’t need TWO disadvantages to getting a
job or, even more importantly, to being taken seriously once in that job.
Being female is a big enough obstacle to overcome.
Let me know if you bum out and want to write some books on royalty. I will
have that work going for the next 12 months or so for the right people, and
I don’t care if you still ARE sick, as no book, no pay - simple equation.

Subject: atw: CV and interview advice
Hello everyone
I am just about to start job-hunting after an extended period of time off
for health/personal reasons. I was hoping to get some advice about the best
way to explain my absence to a potential employer as well as on my CV.
Any advice would be appreciated,
Tracy
