Try exporting to PostScript. Illustrator should open either .EPS or
.PS.

A long time ago, I used to import auto CAD dwgs saved as CGM to Adobe
Illustrator in order to work on them befroe converting them. Is there
a
convention du jour for converting CAD dwgs to Illustrator? I know
there
are any number of converters that will turn a CAD dwg to a tiff, jpeg,
PDF,
etc, but I have not found one that specifically outputs to illustrator,
or
do the modern versions of auto CAD save to a format that opens in
Illustrator?
Thanx
