'Build' - involves compiling and linking application modules produced
in-house and any purchase software that is held in source form.

'Release' - described as a collection of authorised changes to an IT
service. Consists of the new or changed software required and any new or
changed hardware needed to implement a number of problem fixes and/or
enhancements to an IT service.

A build is an update or compile of the software. It can be done for a
product release or it can be done to incorporate recent changes to see
if they work correctly.

A 'release' is the final stage of a software cycle. This can be for
release to a customer or release for testing. Usually these are tied to
milestones.

Typically, we refer to a final build after testing as the Release
Version of our software.

Build and Release are two terms that are used very loosely in our
