atw: Re: Build vs Release

A build is an update or compile of the software. It can be done for a
product release or it can be done to incorporate recent changes to see
if they work correctly.

A 'release' is the final stage of a software cycle. This can be for
release to a customer or release for testing. Usually these are tied to
milestones.

Typically, we refer to a final build after testing as the Release
Version of our software.

IHTH.

Bruce

Good day to all you wonderful wordsmiths!

Time to test your knowledge...

Build and Release are two terms that are used very loosely in our
company. I wonder if I could poll you for your thoughts on the
difference between these two
from a technical perspective or are they simply referring to the same
thing?

Thanks,
Nikki
