Sorry, Howard. I missed the point that you had approached RIM. About
your query on rules, you need a trademark notice especially if the
product is being supplied to external customers. And use "Microsoft®".
Never use plurals, possessives or lower case. Otherwise companies may
not send around large, ugly men with baseball bats to turn you into
dogfood but they could send people even more scary: lawyers. This link

BTW, Your example "Microsoft Word®" was incorrect simply because Word is
one of the few that is not a trademark. It should be cited as
"Microsoft® Word".
