atw: Re: Artefact or Artifact?

Big Macq prefers 'artefact' with 'artifact' an acceptable alternative.
Doesn't say why.
There are many reasons why there may be two spellings of a word in
English: regional variation, folk etymology, simple sloppiness. I
wouldn't fret it.

Subject: atw: Artefact or Artifact?

Greetings All,
I am trying to decide whether to use Artefact or Artifact. The
dictionary I have here says both are acceptable, but doesn't explain why
there are two versions. I suspect Artefact is British and Artifact is
US. Does anyone have a preference or etymology? I don't have web
access at work.

Many thanx.

Deb :)
