atw: Re: Artefact or Artifact?

Hi Deb,
Usually the first instance shown in a dictionary is the preferred spelling
and the second and subsequent variations are seen as having a less common
usage by that dictionary.

If you find a lot of these, you may want to declare another dictionary as
your company 'standard' or set up a style guide to state the use of
variations.

For the record though, you are correct and 'arte-' is used outside the US.

Cheers,

Bruce Ashley

Subject: atw: Artefact or Artifact?

Greetings All,
I am trying to decide whether to use Artefact or Artifact. The
dictionary I have here says both are acceptable, but doesn't explain why
there are two versions. I suspect Artefact is British and Artifact is
US. Does anyone have a preference or etymology? I don't have web
access at work.

Many thanx.

Deb :)
