Your hypo is correct. However, the yanks accept e, so if you use e you will
be more compliant to an international audience.

I am trying to decide whether to use Artefact or Artifact. The dictionary I
have here says both are acceptable, but doesn't explain why there are two
versions. I suspect Artefact is British and Artifact is US. Does anyone
have a preference or etymology? I don't have web access at work.
