As long as I have the time, I prefer to try, naïve as that may seem.


More power to you. I definitely think that trying to
come up with reasonable rates to suggest to new
technical writers or contractors as prevailing
rates, and a sliding scale based on experience and
talent, is a good step. However, I think that
"unionizing" or accreditation are not feasible and
I hate to watch a lot of people spend a lot of time
on something that is largely impractical and not
likely to affect the market. However, it's not my
time so good luck to you!
