atw: Re: Accreditation - again

Here we go again.

> The Departments of Education in this country and abroad have very specific
meanings for 'accreditation'.

Which includes oral examinations and personal assessments. I find this whole
paragraph utterly irrelevant to the argument. They have strict requirements?
Crikey - hairdressers fall under this system. All you have said is that
education has a structure to it. There is nothing about this that precludes
our plan.

> Accreditation DOES NOT apply to individuals.

#1: And this was being discussed by who? Where did this point suddenly enter
the fray?

#2: And now we fight over whether the horse goes before the cart or not.
Individuals seek certification. They attend accredited training programs to
gain certification. Brian thinks we want all of us to be our own individual
accredited training program. I really don't know where he got this idea from
but it has lodged in there and stuck hard.

#3: We seek to form a body that is accredited with awarding certification in
technical writing, even if this accreditation initially is just by peer
acclamation! Like any body, it will rely on Individual Examiners to perform
the assessments and tests.

#4: With your vast knowledge and experience of AQTF, you can surely be more
constructive and helpful here Brian. Let me provide a framework for you to
fill in for us...

___________________________________________________

Q1: We plan on using RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) - what specific
rules apply to us in this context? Can we just keep a register of courses we
have examined candidates from that we find suitable?

Q2: What paradigms exist from the art world to help guide our certification
system?

Q3: What records must we keep in order to comply with AQTF? AFAIK, training
records must be kept for 30 years, is there anything else?

Q4: Once we have formed such a body, how do we get it 'registered' as an
official NTA member? You surely must have a bag of tips for slipping through
these guys.

Q5: With the proposed model, what level do you see as at? I see certificate
level, with constant work from a group we may be able to stretch this to
diploma level eventually.

Q6: Are there existing accredited companies we should consider affiliating
or associating with?

Q7: Any case studies of similar movements?

Q8: It seems in many of our tests it will be difficult to separate the KSA
being used. Are there generic techniques for overcoming this? What methods
can we apply to our material to ensure CI specifically as a AQTF user?

And many more.

The Departments of Education in this country and abroad have very specific
meanings for 'accreditation'. It applies to courses and institutions.
Accreditation as applied to a course, means that the course itself meets
certain education criteria with respect to level, eg, as in the AQTF in
Australia.

Accreditation as applied to an institution means that such an institution
meets the probity requirements for being able to offer to teach or assess
[or both] for that particular course. An institution can be made up of one
person who teaches, trains or assesses. But an individual cannot merely
claim to offer such and such a course and therefore be accredited - there is
much more to it than that.

Accreditation DOES NOT apply to individuals.

Brian.

I just stumbled over a statement made by the Prime Minister on 22
  October. The key components are

o the absorption of the National Training Authority into the
  Department of Education and Science

o the establishment of a ministerial council on vocational education
"to ensure continued harmonisation of a national system of standards,
  assessment and accreditation ... "

I read this to mean accreditation of educators and trainers - for the
  time being.
