I like Miriam Geller's statement about future releases of RoboHelp:
> I recognize that eHelp used to provide a roadmap
> regarding future product release schedules, but
> as a public company we cannot do the same.
Of course they can. Microsoft does and while I worked there PeopleSoft
did. While I worked in the LINC development centre, Unisys announced
schedules and features to its user base. I'm not saying that those
firms get detailed or specific, but there's enough information to give
their customers comfort and assurance about continued development. To a
limited extent, the car manufacturers do it and I'm sure lots of other
public companies do it too.
Ms Geller has made the worst attempt at spin that I've seen in a long
time, and I'm sure she would try to justify herself by saying that any
announcement might breach stock market rules about profit forecasts.
That would be poor quality spin too.
I suspect Macromedia have lost a lot of friends over this. Whether
they lose customers is quite another matter.
