atw: Re: "50 Years of Stupid Grammar Advice"

I've never thought of EOS as being definitive, merely useful and concise.

If EOS has allegedly influenced US college students, sadly such influence
never reached our shores.

During 15 years or so in the government and private sectors I continue to
pray for evidence of assertive, clear writing.

"Be clear!". Yes, how vapid, and how rarely implemented.

Most office workers, and managers in particular, even manage to mangle a 15
word email.

As for passive writing, it's the norm, and the guilty parties are oblivious
to the tedium (and confusion) of their writing.

(Not that I believe all writing should be assertive; a mix of passive and
assertive, appropriately applied, generally results in the most agreeable
writing style.)

Sadly Gen-X and Gen-Whiners are barely literate. There is even less hope
for the Millenniums and iGen's. A copy of EOS wouldn't do them any harm at
all, compared to what they're doing now. For most though, the opportunity
has already been lost.
