I can't remember how many times I've inserted new columns within a table
then had to Shift drag column borders to bring the rightmost column back
onto the page. Always a pain when the rightmost column is the widest and
that's the width of the new column -- as seems to be usual for me. (I
know you can also find the off-page column markers more easily in Normal
view.)
Today I've discovered that, for all of the table formats I've tried (I
don't 'do' floating/wrap around tables) if you reduce the overall width
of the table by just a couple of mm, before you insert the new column,
Word will rescale all columns so that they still fit within the text
boundary.
The big proviso here is **no merged cells** which just lead to a big
mess.
Cheers,
Terry
