Dear all,
Here is part two of my questions for my presentation on the technical
communicator's place in the organisational hierarchy at the ASTC conference
this year. These are questions for agents. If you are an agent or act part-time
as an agent, I would appreciate if you could take the time to answer the
following questions for me:
1. What do you understand by the term technical communication? What types of
jobs would fall in this category?
2. What percentage of the jobs you place each month would fall into this
category?
3. What skills would you look for in a technical communicator?
4. What do you think most employers expect from a technical communicator?
5. What type of work environments are available for technical communicators?
(For example, contract or permanent, working in teams of writers or sole
writers on other teams)
6. Do you think technical communicators need to improve our professional
standing?
7. What methods might we use to raise our professional standing?
8. What do you think of accreditation for technical communicators?
9. What other methods would you suggest we use to market our skills to
employers? What can we do to help you market our skills?
I appreciate your help with this. Please email any answers or interest to
Michelle Hallett (michelle@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)
Much thanks,
Michelle
