Job Title: CPA Inproma Senior Technical Writer
Location: Level 3, 46-48 York St, Sydney
Department: CPA Inproma Product Services
Reports To: CPA Inproma Product Services Manager
Prepared: 30 September 2003
Position Objectives
Ensures production of quality documentation that meets client requirements and
expectations by utilising CPA SS resources to deliver an effective
range of documentation.
Summary
Organises and produces quality documentation for use by clients,
implementation staff and development staff by performing the following
duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Plan and coordinate documentation projects. Provide documentation
plans and work estimates to Product Manager for scheduling
purposes.
2. Allocate and schedule work within the documentation team.
3. Manage the performance and development of direct line reporting
staff and any contractors.
4. Maintain existing product documentation as requested and in
response to reported errors, enhancement requests or the
inclusion of new functionality.
5. Research, design and develop product documentation (such as
release notes, user guides, implementation guides, training
guides and on-line help) from available functional / technical
documentation within agreed timeframes.
6. Liaise with the appropriate Subject Matter Experts (SME) to
acquire specific information in order to accomplish writing tasks and
resolve the contents of product documents.
7. Edit material for content, organisation, grammar, consistency and
style. Resolve documentation issues with SME's and editors.
8. Ensure the documentation process which includes the review cycle
is adhered to by the Documentation Team.
9. Maintain an understanding of CPA SS software products specifically CPA
Inproma and levels of user proficiency.
10. Maintain and adhere to company documentation standards and
guidelines including recognised Australian and international standards,
where applicable.
11. Monitor developments in documentation technology, makes
recommendations, and implements new tools as required.
12. Manage the documentation change and release process.
13. Coordinate with developers to implement help files and updates in
help-file technology.
14. Coordinate with team leaders the product documentation to be
included with software releases.
15. Review and test software for accuracy and consistency with
documentation, identifying problems and suggesting
revisions.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform
each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are
representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. This list is
intended as a guide in identifying deficits and determining possible
in-house and external training requirements.
Education/Experience
1. A tertiary qualification in a technology or communications field
such as computer science, engineering, information technology,
teaching, desktop publishing or journalism would be highly desirable.
2. Experience in coordination of documentation process, and
supervision of technical writers.
3. Experience in writing technical documentation,
4. Experience in developing on-line documentation, and the use of
appropriate tools.
5. Knowledge of international and Australian documentation standards
