(This message is off-topic, but it?s Friday so what the hell!) Recently a friend told me about Picasa -- a program for organising and editing photos on your PC. It?s made by Google, it?s free, and it?s fabulous! (And at only about 3 MB, it?s a snap to download, too. Its miniscule footprint belies its staggering features.) You can get it from: http://www.picasa.com You can read about many of its features at: http://readme.picasa.com/public/#ed It?s great for sharpening, brightening, and otherwise fixing photos in just one or two clicks. (Mind you, for fixing red-eye, the free Photoshop Album Starter Edition is better.) Picasa also lets you apply lots of effects, like graduated colour filters, soft focus, sepia, and others. (Many more features than Photoshop Album Starter.) And it lets you easily send photos or slide-shows to other people. By the way, Picasa takes ?Undo? to a whole new level: ?You can undo and redo your edits forever... you can shut Picasa down, come back a week later, and undo a change you didn't like.? (That flexibility, though, comes at a price. Namely, your changes to a photo are saved _invisibly_, separately from the original photo file. So if you want to do anything with the photo outside Picasa, you have to remember to apply the changes to an actual file. Also, Picasa logs your changes automatically, so you?re never prompted to save your work. Those aspects take a bit of getting used to because they're so different from how desktop software usually works.) Nevertheless, its graphical timeline feature blew me away! Enjoy!
