atw: [OT] New Software for Documentation Department

Thanks Damian.

"Klaatu barada nikto" would've been nice to know a little sooner, but I'm
sure there'll be plenty of opportunities for me to put this command to good
use in the future.

I would have to agree with John about the right tool for the right job.
AuthorIT is an awesome help tool and even the single user license outputs
HTML as well as MS Word and multiple help format outputs. Having gone
through similar exercises with AuthorIT in a few work environments I would
have to say the native HTML output is very nice, but if you want to
customise it you do need to spend some time working with the templates.
Classic mistake I made on one job was to assume that I could just re-import
the Word output straight back into AuthorIT. Don't underestimate the amount
of pre and post processing on converting from other document formats either.
I have really stretched the boundaries on AuthorIT on a few big
documentation projects and when I have hit a snag the support guys at
AuthorIT have always been on the ball. On the down side being an object
oriented software its a difficult tool to wrap your head around if you are
just used to Word type authoring and have no background with any help
authoring packages. Its more like programming in C than it is like using
Word. I still favour Framemaker over AuthorIT for bigger detailed technical
documents, but for anything remotely suited to help format AuthorIT is my
tool of choice.

cheers
