SENIOR TECHNICAL WRITER

THE ROLE…

As a member of the Product Knowledge and Communications team the Senior 
Technical Writer is responsible for developing and maintaining documentation 
for the product suite.  

The Senior Technical Writer reports to the Manager, Product Knowledge and 
Communications, and works closely with the Research and Development team 
leaders and architects.
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
* A high level of technical writing experience (5+ years, plus a relevant 
tertiary qualification)
* Superb written and verbal communications skills
* Creative problem solving skills
* A strong ability to mentor and coach technical writers
* Exposure to large scale commercial software development 

RESPONSIBILITIES…

The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for:

* Reviewing and understanding the Knowledge Transfer Strategy and all program 
requirements and deliverables
* assisting in detailed program estimates as required
* developing product documentation according to schedule for new release 
programs
* interacting with development teams to ensure accuracy of the documentation
* reporting progress against the schedules
* understanding and ensuring work is carried out according to the Product 
Knowledge and Communications development lifecycle
* understanding, using and updating tools to develop documentation e.g. quality 
standards, processes, templates, ticket management system.
* working with other team members and participating in team meetings
* mentoring junior team members
* identifying continuous improvement opportunities within the Product Knowledge 
and Communications development lifecycle
* participating in internal team projects


THE REQUIREMENTS…

TECHNICAL

* Expert knowledge of documentation development process and lifecycle
* Working knowledge of the relevant technology areas: C/C++, Perl, Java, SQL, 
Relational Database (Oracle)
* Working knowledge of Unix commands & concepts (environment variables, file 
permissions, login/out procedures, shell scripting)

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

* 5+ years technical writing experience.
* Exposure to large scale commercial software development.
* Expert ability to assimilate knowledge of complex systems
* Expert ability to apply and use adaptive styles during the development of 
materials for different purposes and audiences
* Highly developed problem solving skills to identify and diagnose complex 
problems.
* Highly developed content design skills
* Strong ability to mentor and coach technical writers
* Strong ability to resolve and negotiate conflict
* Expert communication skills (verbal and written)
* A commitment to meeting quality as defined by Intec
* Excellent time management skills

The following will be viewed favourably but are not essential:

* Strong understanding of the Singl.eView product suite
* Knowledge of Singl.eView documentation
* Exposure to telecommunications/billing/customer care industry
