atw: Introducing the Potsworth Scale [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

In the old days, beer in NSW was served in the following sizes
pint 20 oz
schooner 15 oz
middy 10 oz
pony? 7 oz

Are these names falling out of favour? I have heard (young) people at
clubs ordering 'a beer' or 'a large beer'? They are given a middy or a
schooner.

Years back when I worked in the bush, I had a kind of
living-away-from-home-allowance of 2 stubbies a day, at local prices.

That would explain the discrepancy in schooner sizes between Sydney and
Adelaide.
Adelaide being a third less or Sydney being 50% extra, depending on
whether you're a half empty or half full sort of person.

Donald Halley

And a pint in Adelaide is 15 ounces, work that one out.

Better bitter than battered (as my old friend Sav used to say) - then
some Pils will take the pis# out of anything.

A marvellous insight, Mike O'H! :-)

I'd say that the whole concept has become lager than life, but that
might leave some feeling bitter.

Cheers,

Michael
