How to explain tactfully to a client that gender-inclusive language is not
"politically correct", it is ACCURATE and COURTEOUS? (One is tempted to
quote Dumbledore -- "No, no, these are *manners*.")
In my youth, I protested to a client about the gender-inclusive language he
insisted on. He asked why I was so vehement. "Because language shapes
reality," I told him, in a voice that hinted at deep and poignant meaning.
"Ah, Laura," he replied. "When I was young, I, too, fought battles I could
not win."
