atw: Dorothy in the Land of Oz: 1. After the fall

Dorothy and Patoto gingerly negotiated the narrow yellow-brick path winding the cliff-face high above the valley floor, in places scarcely wider than a shoe.

"I don't think we are in Paris any more, Patoto," conjectured Dorothy, then cautioned, "Don't trip on any rotten puns."

Beyond an outcrop the path widened to a broad ledge on which they perceived the unconscious Pushme-Pullum, slumped where it had fallen, littered by digressions and soap-boxes. Suddenly it mood, subjunctively. Dorothy buried her face in one of its shaggy necks and soothed, "We knew you two would be ... [thinks: alright? all right? okay?]". "... unequivocal", she concluded llamaly.

"I suppose you detest me too much to give /me/ a hug?" the other head sulked. "O Pushme, why don't you shove off?" Dorothy exasperated crossly, glancing meaningfully at the precipice.
