Good timing though as I have done all those fabulous clean-up things to no
avail, only to realise that SnagIt is causing the problem. There is some
glitch where it gets overloaded with the vast number of objects in 2007 when
you use Object capture with the Word clipboard open (and so appending).
Haven?t detected the exact pattern ? have just stopped using Object capture.
TechSmith has been unable to replicate the problem on their super duper
machines, and as they do not know what ?badges? are, I don?t think they
followed my instructions ? but sobeit. They told me to upgrade to a better
computer. I just love that answer.
The process was good though as I learned about legitimate programs that do
illegitimate things on your computer. I discovered the crimes of programs
like mim.exe and realplay.exe that run background processes without telling
you. When they gobble up 98% of system resources without telling you what
they are doing ? you are going to have problems. So now I want to know the
best utility for spotting all these programs and banishing them! Anyone
know?
Also, what is the best utility for cleaning up registry?
So what with virus checking, firewalls, spyware detectors, registry
cleaners, rogue program detectors et al ? there must be one thing that does
the lot ? surely? And what have I missed?

Sorry this is a real old message.
Zonealarm was blocking this email account.
To avoid large complicated files overloading your system:
Here?s a checklist :
You need to do all these things:
§ Upgrade your RAM to the max.
§ Run PC cleanup
§ Run disk fragmentor
§ When working, always restart your computer periodically if you have been
using complicated files for a while as they always leave stuff clogging up
the RAM that wont go away till you restart.
§ Repaste the doc into another empty one..(.if you can do this without
messing up the styles.)
§ Don?t use overkill virus control (such as Norton.)
§ Check for Spyware
Now email me offline if you don?t know how to do any of these things by now.
Note you didn?t say what your op system and configuration is (how much RAM
do you have and is it Windows XP?)

Hi guys
I am using Word 2007 for a document with lots of tables. My document has
now reached 4mb and is pushing the limits of my system. I have worked on
much larger documents (up to 20mb) on this computer, but am thinking that
the effort of repaginating all those tables is the problem. I intend to
keep the tables ? they are much easier to maintain than numbered lists and
floating graphics, and I would rather not split the file.
Can anyone tell of me of any utilities that are designed to clean up the
computer, the RAM, the document, the screen shots ? anything that will
reduce file size or free up some ?grunt? for my computer to handle this
file.
Short of that, I will have to upgrade my computer, as there is bigger and
nastier to come.
Ta, Christine
