atw: Bechtel is looking for tech writers in Brisbane

This appeared on the Qld Techwriters list, but I don't think it's been posted here. --Jean

Subject: Looking for tech writers

We’ve been looking for technical writers here in Brisbane but they’re proving hard to find. During my search I stumbled upon this group so I thought it would be a good place to put the word out.

We have one (possibly 2) contract positions available. Details are…

§ Temporary position until end April 2010 – there is the likelihood of further work coming up

§ Responsible for formatting, rewriting, and liaising with authors

§ Edits and/or rewrites draft documents. Organises content, edits text and graphics. Ensures that the material is structured and formatted logically and resolves inconsistencies.

§ Ensures adherence to project style guide and document templates. May review work of other technical editing staff members.

§ Monitors job progress and alerts responsible supervisor when schedules appear to be in jeopardy. May write progress reports.

§ Assists other technical editing staff, as required.

§ Expert technical skills in Word, with an emphasis on formatting, figure/table placement from external inputs, and indexing

As you can see from the description it is probably better described as more of a technical editing role. The main focus is on applying our strict formatting/style guides and checking content to see if it makes sense. There is not so much emphasis on content creation.

It would be helpful if the person has had experience in the EPCM field before (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) – but not necessary.

Do you know of anyone who might fit the bill or where we should be looking? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Mike
