Central Sydney Members' and Friends Meeting.
Sarbanes-Oxley - practical implementations.
The successful introduction of legislation into the US Senate by Senators
Sarbanes and Oxley to avoid repeats of major corporate fiascos like Enron
has serious implications and offers substantial opportunities for technical
communicators working in Australia. The legislation is designed to improve
shareholder confidence in the management of large companies and thus ensure
that the stock market, which drastically affects a country's international
economic standing, is vigorous. It requires listed companies to adhere to
good business practices with mandated separation of duties in the area of
managing their financial systems.
On a trivial level, there are a number of companies here in Australia owned
by holding companies listed on an American stock exchange, or directly
listed themselves. But further, there is a reasonable expectation that
Australia will follow suit with matching legislation in the near future. It
is fairly simple legislation, but with enormous implications for our
profession.
This session will provide detail on implementing practical solutions in a
short time, using a standard corporate methodology that can be easily
scaled. Questions will be encouraged.
