Hi austechies,
A survey is underway to gather your ideas on what the profession of
technical writing should be called. (Much of what we do is not particularly
technical, and some of us don't do much writing at all. So perhaps another
name is warranted.) You can find the survey at
www.abelard.com.au/survey.html. It's a chance to use your writing skills to
suggest what those with your writing skills might be called.
I've summarised some of the arguments for and against a name change in the
August issue of Words (available at
<http://www.abelard.com.au/bulletin.html> www.abelard.com.au/bulletin.html).
That issue also has an article on the passive voice (and why it shouldn't be
shunned altogether), two articles on working as a technical writer in the
UK, and an article on how to get superscripts and subscripts to appear on a
web page.
Cheers
