Hi austechies,
There is a long-term contract going at MYOB at present (see below):
<ad>
Technical Writer
Australia's largest IT company Melbourne (Eastern suburbs) Salary
negotiable; start ASAP
Australia?s premier developer of accounting and business software is seeking
an experienced technical writer with a flair for writing simple, plain,
utilitarian English and a passion for tying down detail.
You will join a large team of writers and produce, initially, SDLC process
documentation. Later you will produce user guides, online help systems,
release notes, getting started guides and installation instructions, each
describing an accounting, tax or retail point-of-sale system. While exposure
to such systems (and an understanding of basic accounting) would be highly
regarded, the primary skill sought is outstanding fluency in writing simple
idiomatic English coupled with the discipline to rigorously apply set
templates and a house style. (Note: short-listed applicants will be asked to
sit a test to demonstrate their understanding of the mechanics of language
and their skills in writing clear, compact procedures.)
Ideally, you will have 3+ years experience working in a variety of technical
writing roles, and you must have a thorough knowledge of the typical
software and documentation development cycles.
The principal authoring tools are FrameMaker, Word and RoboHelp. Ideally,
you should have some working knowledge of each of these tools. If you do
not, but can clearly demonstrate that you meet all the other requirements of
this position, your application will still be considered.
Other skills and attributes that will be highly regarded are experience
working in a Project Office (or similar environment) documenting IT project
development and change management processes, experience interpreting
business requirements and software design documentation, experience writing
user documentation for consumer products, a tertiary qualification
(especially in technical writing, English, instructional design, journalism
or accounting), competency in the use of Adobe Acrobat and a graphics
manipulation program, information analysis skills, an understanding of
readability and useability issues pertaining to paper and online
documentation, the capacity to interpret text from a user?s perspective,
experience writing instructional material for international audiences, and a
passion for language.
This is a 10?12 month position. Salary is negotiable.
