[austechwriter] Word Numbering

Hi Word Gurus

Word 2000 question. (Please, no rhetoric on Word numbering - we all know th=
e issues).  Does anyone have a quick answer to why 'Restart Numbering' for =
a specific style is available at some times and not at others.    I have tw=
o list numbering styles, one nested under the other.

Both are reliably applying the correct formatting.  However, List Number St=
yle 1 will allow  'Restart Numbering' in each and every situation I have us=
ed it.  List Number Style 2 will allow restart at any stage after the first=
 instance of List Number Style 1, but will not allow it at all after the se=
cond and subsequent instances of List Number Style 1

1.      sdfasdfasdf
        1.      asdfasdf
        1.      asdfasdf           [THIS HAS RENUMBERED]
1.      asdfasdfasdf
        2.      asdfasdf           [THIS WILL NOT RENUMBER]
1.      asdfasdf
        3.      dasdfasdf

Does anyone know the rules and how to get around them?
