We user Microsoft Visual SourceSafe (VSS) for version management and
single-sourcing management.  All our documentation and some of our help is
maintained in FrameMaker.  We use FrameMaker's condition formats (the
ability to selectively reveal or conceal content) for content management.

Different manuals sharing source files have different projects or views
into the file database, so any writer working on a particular deliverable
only sees the files relevant to that deliverable.  You programmers can help
you with the concept of shared files and multiple views into a set of
files.
