[austechwriter] Re: Using the word 'anger' in marketing text

Hi,

I agree that it is a fairly common term in software development. I've used =

it and heard it used in the context Stuart describes. I don't actually get =

connotations of "angriness" from the word; to me it just means they've=20
used it for real & have seriously tested it.=20

Stuart quoted and then wrote:=20

>"All the products we sell we use in anger ourselves."

>It was written by a british writer for one of the contract programmers
>here. He asked me to proof it, I was amazed that they used the word=20
anger.
>He got back to them and supposedly it is a common term used in the US and
>UK. Can anybody confirm this?

The phrase is in common usage in Britain. It means 'used seriously' or=20
'not under test conditions, but rather in the real world'.

The writer intends to indicate that the vendor actually uses the product=20
"for real", implying that they know what they're talking about when they=20
tell you how great it is. It's a bit chatty, but if it's marketing copy,=20
that's probably OK. No one in Britain would think it odd.
